Tile
eramic and porcelain tile is attached to the backer board with mortar, and this mortar takes two or three days to dry. The grout that is placed between the tiles must dry, too. Also, grout usually needs to be sealed to keep out moisture. It may take longer to cut porcelain than ceramic. It is harder and denser, and therefore, more brittle.

Solid hardwood planks are nailed to a wood subfloor. It may take up to two weeks to install unfinished wood, including time for acclimation. Engineered wood planks click and lock together so a floating floor can be constructed. The plywood base found under the surface hardwood layer can tolerate moisture, so applications are numerous.
